Silver wings and fairy dust

Edith stopped pacing long enough to stare at her reflection in the mirror. Her emerald glazed eyes widened with horror. Rarely did she allow herself to look so bedraggled, so out of control. Strands of her chocolate-brown hair were fleeing from the tight bun, causing her to appear like as though she had just placed her delicate and pale fingers into an electric socket. Mascara nestled in the lines under her eyes. Her chili red lipstick which emphasized her plump lips had faded leaving only her lip liner as a frame, and her foundation clung to the dry patches of her olive skin. Gone was the usual pristine look. This caused her heart to beat faster, the panic to accelerate. The feeling had finally sunk in. Rupert had left her and flew off to the place that everybody knows as God's playground. Gone, for good. She reached out to the cordless white phone placed on the table and turned her back towards the mirror. Silently, she pressed the soft buttons on the face of the phone and placed it to her left ear.

''Just breathe'' she told herself trying to calm her emotions. She ran a trembling hand over her hair forcing the wild strands of hair back down. The ambiance was then shattered with the shrill ringing tone of the phone.

''Hello?'' said the deep manly voice on the other end of the line.

Edith was dumbstruck. How long it has been since she heard this voice. Her childhood memories came flooding back. She just could not continue. How much her heart longed to tell him that Rupert had left..but she was tongue-tied. She cut the line.

I miss writing...
